The investment will be made in middle-mile internet infrastructure.
The Department of Commerce recently released $930 million for internet infrastructure through their Middle Mile grant program. Middle-mile internet infrastructure refers to the extensive run of cables connecting internet providers to homes and businesses. This funding released to 350 counties across the United States will deploy over 12,000 miles of new fiber cables to bring high-speed internet to new communities.
“Access to Internet is no longer a luxury,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “Much like how the interstate highway system connected every community in America to regional and national systems of highways, this program will help us connect communities across the country to regional and national networks that provide quality, affordable high-speed Internet access.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Raimondo as she oversees the funding of the middle-mile program to expand internet coverage.
- For Commerce officials as they determine the areas of the nation that lack high-speed internet access.
- For all those who will work on the project and lay the cables in the 350 counties.
